ART AND MIND PROJECT

The Art&Mind is a project developed by José Neto. Zé is not only a friend, but also a plastic artist that decided to do something.

Instead of knocking at the doors waiting for invitations for exhibitions and events he decided to step ahead and develop his own ideas. Around him he joined some friends - some are also plastic artist, sculptors and photographers. Others are not artists but have place in this idea because we (like Zé) studied Philosophy. I enter in this second part.

I must say now that we are in Portugal and started our own activities not long ago. Me and Zé, we believe we are developing some experimental way of working and thinking around Art and Philosophy. That is why this name was choose.

«As a plastic artist and a philosopher I feel as my ethical obligation to reveal the gradual impoverishment of the culture of this country. We see it not only in the artistic production elitization, in the mediatic attention paid to another areas but also in the drastic reduction of exhibition spaces. And all this occurs before an indifferent attitude of the public.

When the system is showing signs of collapse, it is time for the subjects taking the authority of your destination. I want to articulate thinkers and artists (and vice versa), so that the first are called to bring his theory into practice, and reciprocity in the artists are invited to join their practice in the theory. I think this way to make a small contribution to bridging the gap between these two areas. [José Neto]

So... Art&Mind naturally arose from the need to disseminate this awareness and will to go against the flow.

My intention in presenting here our project is in one way to discuss it and see what others think about it but also to show that if we want we can start doing things instead of waiting for them to happen.
